Description :

The invention is an innovative and alternative medicine prototype using Randu honey as an active ingredient dedicated to treat cervical cancer. Randu honey is a natural honey which comes from Indonesia. Randu honey contains Flavonoids such as Pinobanksin, Quercetin, Luteolin, Pinocembrin, and Chrysin, and also contains Polyphenols such as Chlorogenic acid, Caffeic acid, p-Coumaric acid, and Ferulic acid. All of these components are responsible for creating an anti-cervical cancer effect through apoptotic mechanism involving proapoptotic protein Caspase 3, p53, and Bax, and also antiapoptotic protein BCL-2. Randu honey is incorporated into Multilamellar Vesicle (MLV) of liposome and then formulated into vaginal gel preparation.

MLV system is used to create a sustained release effect that can extend duration of effect of Randu honey. Vaginal gel is used to construct an easy, comfortable, and direct drug penetration towards cervix and therefore increase opportunity of contact between Randu honey and cervical cancer cells. Direct contact between Randu honey and cervical cancer cells will creates maximum apoptotic effect to cervical cancer cells. Application of this vaginal gel preparation will be assisted using special injector device called vaginal applicator.
